My Reflection for Problem Behavior

After MMSEL course on Monday, January 7th, 2013, I have reflected my experience during formal school (elementary until senior high school). I thought hardly to find which one that is included to bully, violence or aggression. I just realized that bullying was not really important problem in my school at that time. I remember when I was in 2nd grade of senior high school, I got 'disgusting called name' such as 'Aurelia'. My friends called me like that because I found the simplest form to remember life cycle of Aurelia aurita (jellyfish). I became famous because of that called name. Actually, I was really uncomfortable although the disgusting called name was a beautiful one. However, I could not do anything to make my friends became silent and stop calling me 'Aurelia'. Then, after I got this material in MMSEL course, I really realize that disgusting called name is not the simple thing, maybe it is only a joke. However, it is not a should to be a joke.

Besides that, I also remembered when I was in junior high school; called parents’ name became habitually. Every student was really excited to find their friend parents’ names. It is because for student who knew the parents’ name of their friends at most, s/ he would get reward from other friends. Actually, it was one of problem behavior’ example which cannot be permitted. However, every student really enjoyed that game. At one moment, there was a couple of parent that came to the school to chew out the school about that game. I realized that there was a friend who did not like her/ his parent’ name became a joke. Then, because of the complaint, my counseling teacher asked one of my friends who started the game to go to the office. After that, all of my friends did not continue the game. I reflect that my teacher’ do is a good one which asked my friend to go to the office and have private discussing the problem through.

Based on the stories above, I can reflect that problem behavior cannot be reputed as a simple problem. It is because when I, as a teacher, do not do something to prevent or stop that problem behavior; there will be part that is getting hurt and it becomes bullying if it is done repeatedly. In addition, bullying also can become cause of violence at school. It is because, when the victim of bullying is getting stressed, s/ he cannot think clearly and s/ he will do anything to release her/ his emotion. So, bullying becomes a must to be concerned, because everything that starts by problem behavior can be aggression or violence.
