My project reflections

At the beginning of creation MMSEL project I find it very difficult to come up with ideas to motivate. Until finally, I reflect on ourselves and our circumstances today. I prepared as bilingual teacher who has the ability to deliver material. However, in fact I still feel my skills in both English language speaking or solving the problem is still weak. And this was not just my experience. So,I and my friends choose that topic for my project.

I am very spirit and so interested in this project. I am also optimistic that this will work because the target and the location easy access. However, in the middle of implementing projects I do not feel motivated to implement this. There are several reasons why I feel that way.

One is communication. Communication between members of my group, I felt a bit difficult. Thus, the project is not run well. It is also time for implementation should be postponed several times because it is difficult to find the time where our target is 2010 free math student projects to follow me and my friends.

However, when I re-motivated myself to follow the activities of our first English Motivation sharing. Speakers can really motivate. Starting from that, I became a spirit again to continue further activities.

From this project I learned a lot. In addition to carrying out its own activities I also feel the benefits. Thank you for my group of friends and all of my friends who already assist the English Motivation Sharing, English Day and English course.

Reflection Project

I think the idea of my group project to motivate the students in SMA Yasporbi was really good because they really need a motivation program. We can’t let students continuing their lacking of motivation. Both Grade XI and XII ware really annoying, it is my opinion as a person. But “How pity they are?”, it is my opinion as teacher who has taught them once.  They don’t have any passion to learning. They need much attention because they always try to take our attention.  Their teacher said that most of them are broken home students and students with busy parent. So I conclude that they ware like that because they have much pain.
I still little bit confuse how to faced them in the class if I being their teacher. But I know now, that I need to use the magical formula. It is about communication to the parent.  I think it is really needed. But the fact was even school have communicated with the parents, but the teacher said that the parents just ask school to hand it and without anything (because they are busy, sssttt). What I have to do?
It makes me reflect that, I need to communicate much. Even if the parents not response well, but I still need to communicate with them. I have to come to their house one by one maybe. I have to discuss much with the parents and give they know about their children and who are they in the class. I think it will be very difficult to the teacher, if the parents don’t want to involve in their children development and their children’s learning processes.
The thing is that now I feel they need a teacher to be their friend. I want ! sincerely. I want to be teacher in SMA YASPORBI with them who very annoying but very pity. I don’t want to be a teacher but I interest to be teacher there. Honestly, I still don’t know how to teach them in the class but I think I need to be closer with them.

Susi Dariah_Reflection of MMSEL Project

Reflection of MMSEL project

For me, this MMSEL project is the most challenging project I ever done. It is because of the purpose of the project is to motivate people. The thing is we don’t only design the activity but also we have to implement and encourage the target to achieve what we designed. In fact, it was quite difficult for me. The challenges came up from both of the participant and also my project group.
Since the targets also have their own expectations, their own business, it was quite difficult to ask them join the first activity which is English Motivation Sharing. Actually, the first activity is the most important part because that is the moment in which we encourage participant to have awareness that practicing English speaking is very important for our career. In fact, we didn’t successfully encourage many target participants to be involved in this project. However, the motivation sharing was really means for me, I think whereas the participant is not as many as we targeted but the sharing was successfully motivate the participant. From the speakers, I learn many things. The first one is from the experience that Kak Namirah shared, I realize that I need to make a big effort to achieve what I want. Besides, I really like what Mrs. Yannik said in the motivation sharing, it is “if we want to do something, we will find the way to do that, but if we don’t want to do something, we will find excuses to avoiding it”. It is very nice experience for having collaborative project with Mrs. Yannik and  Kak Namirah. I am very grateful for having such family like them. They are very kind in helping us. They are really great with their competency and their humilities.
However, I feel that there are still some aspects in this project implementation that should be improved such as the communication of the group member. I feel we still lack of the effective communication. I think even though we have decided the task of each member, we still need to communicate all of things related to our project. Then, I feel that it was not going well, I found some of us taking a decision without discussing the problem with the group. Furthermore, I also feel that we still lack of self belonging to this project. Thus, it impacts to the initiative of the group member. I am not sure if the reason is because we have many project task then I feel my group is not fully focus to this project. The thing is I feel I am not doing the best in this project because I didn’t have the good cooperation with my group. However, the most important is I learn all of it from this project then I will not letting the next project becomes less of self belonging from the group member.
Besides, I am really happy because there are some participants who said that the project was really good. They said that they are motivated and the project gave them opportunities to practice their English. They are also enthusiast to continue the program. It is a nice respond and being a motivation for me to continue this project for more friends.

Motivation for All: A Reflection

Dasrizal/ 2010110019

When I first came to the MMSEL course, I was so attracted because I loved this kind of topic: motivation. Then, the lecturer gave us an assignment which would involve all students to participate. It was called ‘Motivation for All’. My group planned several plans, yet Inspiring Class became the project that we would like to conduct.
The preparation of the project was not that easy. I, personally, had to deal with people who were not cooperative in working together. Therefore, I should spend my time more than others to think about this project.
Inspiring class was the project to motivate high school students about dreams and future. We came to SMA Yasporbi, South Jakarta to hold this project. It was fun even though the implementation was not that perfect. Students in grade XI were noisier than the XII graders. It was a really big challenge when we had to motivate students who didn’t even want to listen to us. Finally, we tried several strategies to apply and they were willing to listen to us.
Another interesting part of this project was when Inspiring Class sent a proposal for a sponsorship. We won it. We were founded, so the finance of the event was raised well. From the sponsor, we also followed a workshop about team management which helped us much to conduct the project.
All in all, I really love ‘Motivation for All’ project because we could explore our ability in conducting motivational event. What I reflect from this project is that I can see my motivation when I’m doing a planning. Thus, I can also see others’ motivation to work together here. There is up and down situation. Yes, this is the meaning of motivation itself. I understand it through directly in field.

As A Teacher, How to Apply Behavior Intervention in Classroom

Dasrizal
Problem! It is one word that can be avoided in life. There are many problems in this world no matter what our job is, including teacher. Being a teacher means I have to enter a classroom and meet diverse learners. This heterogeneous environment totally leads to some problem. The problem that might arise in this case is problem behavior.
What I understand, problem behavior is when the students are not able to follow the deal in the classroom, so that it unacceptable and it leads to an inconvenience environment. For instance, naming, blaming, chatting during the teacher talks, fighting, and lateness are small part of problem behavior in classroom.
If I am in this condition, what will I do then?
Well, firstly I have to understand the characteristic of the students, and it will lead to the acceptance of the environment. Then, when I find the inconvenience environment caused by this problem behavior, I will train the ‘source’ of this. For example, a student (X) bullies another student (Y). I will talk to student X and ask why he does so, and I will educate him that what he does is inappropriate. Through, this I expect the bullying will not happen anymore.
Another thing what I can do to avoid this problem behavior is by well classroom management. In the beginning of the semester, the students and I should make an agreement about anything in the classroom. Through this, students are expected to have a feel of belonging to the classroom.
If in fact I can’t handle this, I should work together with other teachers or even the parents to solve this. That’s my responsibility as a teacher.

Fun Games for Math

By: Dian Sulistiani / 2010110027
In my reflection, my group’s project is so great. I learn so many experiences from them. I want to say “thank you” for my group, I learn from you all.

This semester is a busy semester. We have so many projects of all courses. I appreciate that this project can be done well. I am happy. We have done our project in “Rumah Belajar Cikoko (RBC)”. It is near with my house rest. I am also a facilitator in RBC. We have activities on Sunday. So we choose the place to be our project. It is also as SSE students’ contribution for the society.

We choose the topic “Fun games for Math”. It is expected that the students can be motivated to learn mathematics. It is good idea. We prepare three games for this. There are “Batang Korek Api” game, “Tebak Kartu” game, and Domino card game. The participant is 10 students of tenth grade that are learner in RBC.

First meeting, my group gives “Batang Korek Api” game to learn about the perimeter of 2-D shapes. It is so amazing. We divide the students into several group based on the group interest. The students choose their friends that have same interest. In this case, I find some students that do not want to be one group. I think that they have some problem about the compatibility. Finally, I suggest making a new group so that they are peace.

Then, I give some sticks of matches to them. I ask them to make some shapes that have perimeter x sticks. It is great. I see the result. All of results are true.  Then, I give a new instruction. I ask them to make free shapes then calculate their shapes. Do you know? I have imagination. That is great. I find the good condition. All of girls group make a house shape whereas, the boy group makes a plane shape, a king shape, and Monas shape. Wow, that is great. I never imagine about the result. They think great idea. It is exceed my expectation. I am so happy. Their motivation and enthusiastic are great.

Second meeting, we learn by using “Tebak Kartu” game. I think that can help the students to show their self. They have to make riddle about the key picture. Another friend will guess the answer. Do you know? It helps the students that are silent to be presenter in the front of class. They have braveness. I think that their motivation can be improved by this game.

Then, I learn from them. They can imagine that 3D shape will be 2D shape. I find a good idea. I ask the students to find some shape around, and then draw it in some papers. Do you know? I get a good idea that makes me surprise. One student draws the bicycle and pump. I think, he just will draw the bicycle. Actually, he draws it more. If I am asked to draw the picture from my environment, may be I just will draw some popular objects. Just it, but they have a great imagination. I am surprise with them. It is so cool.

In third meeting, we use domino card to learn measurement in mathematics. It is so fun. They can play it in group. They enjoy it well. Then, we also play “kuda bisik”. It is fun. Then, in fourth meeting, we have reflection. I think that the students can learn well from our games.
From the project, I have so many benefits. I can work in group well. All of member give motivation each other. I feel comfortable with them. I hope, the next activities are better than these activities. I have a new spirit. 
:)

Interactive Class

By: Dian Sulistiani / 2010110027
Activities in MMSEL course is great, I am enjoying this class. We have some performances in this course. Do you remember about the group performances? Yup, there are three types of performances. Miss Mima divides us into several groups. Each group will present about the material. My group show the mini drama.

I think that the methods of Miss Mima can increase the students’ motivation. Based on my feeling, I prefer to interactive class than traditional methods. I am lazy if the teacher just explains and explains the material, and the students just sit on the chair, hear it, then make a note. It is monotonous. If the interactive class, the students have a chance to explore their self. For example, in MMSEL course, Miss Mima gives chance to all group to present the material by using free methods. It is cool.

The amazing meeting, my group and I make short drama to deliver the material about “Mastery-focus” and “Performance-focus”. I am being a mastery focus. I think that is same with my self. Yup, I analyse that I prefer to mastery focus than performance focus. But, sometimes I am being performance focus. For example, I have target of my score in some course. When, I feel that I afford to get highest score, I will struggle it more. It means that is my ability. But, when I feel that is not my ability, I will learn more and more so that I can understand the material well. The score is bonus for my struggling.

I can not imagine that I will show my ability in this course. I like poem and I show it in my group’s drama. Do you know? It is appreciation for my self. Actually, it can help me to improve my confidents. I have a great life. I believe it so much.

Finally, I reflect that indirectly, MMSEL helps me to improve my self. It is process although sometimes I am lazy to do the reflection. I lose my motivation to do the reflection. Maybe, it is a top of saturation. Some courses ask me to make reflection and reflection. It is okay. I believe that I will get some benefit in next time.
