Parents in Management Classroom

MMSEL Class in this week is little bit fun like before, because Miss Mima has already came between us. Although she is still should running with Lesson Study Workshop in Auditorium. Then, in this time my class talks about communicating effective with parents.
To make a good management classroom, teacher also should make a good communication with parents. Parents also needs to know the learning plan that should students do in one year later. When students have the problems with students, parents should be aware with it. Many strategies that can teacher did to make a good communications with parents such as: arranged schedule meeting with consistence communications and discuss a good treatment for students who have problems with learn in examples. Communications can do by make a parents’ letter, phone call, homework hotline or open house activity maybe.
If I become a teacher who find the students that have problems in school, the first one that I will do for students is try to identify the problems and talks with students personally.  Give students advice to do not repeating the problems. After that, if the students still make the same problems, teacher can give students reinforcement as the consequences of their problems. In the third time and the students still did the same problems, I will call their parents.
During the class yesterday there are the role play activity that make me have some conclusion about how to apply behaviors interventions in the classroom when discuss with parents such as:
1.      Do not meet with more than one student’s parents in the same time with the same problems.
2.      If the problems related with other students, please do not mentions the name of the students.
Two points above are enough important to influence the parent perceptions about students’ problems. That is can make teacher difficult to make parents deal with teacher’s treatment for students who have problems in classroom.

Planning for an effective classroom management in secondary school

If you are a teacher, you should already realize the importance of planning effective classroom management in the class you teach. On the last meeting, I have already learned that the importance of classroom management itself is crucial. No matter how well you master the subject matter you teach, if your students are not feeling well to enjoy every learning activity you give then your teaching efforts will be largely in vain. They will not be able to engage in the learning process and as the consequence, they will be left behind. Is it right, isn’t it? So, as reflect from the evidence, I think teachers especially secondary school teachers need a special set of classroom management strategies in order to support the effectiveness of students learning when teaching and learning process taken place. However dealing with secondary school students is more different than dealing with primary or middle school students. Even though most of them are smart, but we cannot ignore about the fact that sometimes they are extremely sensitive to the pressure by their environment such as their peers, families or even their teachers and worry about how they look like in front of their fellow students.
Well,, same as the previous reflection, If I were being a secondary school teacher, there are some strategies that I want to use to create orderly and safe classroom environment for my students. Of course to make everything in place and works better, there are some things that I need to prepare. First, if I were a teacher in a secondary school, I will start my first class with classroom agreement and sitting arrangement. Involving students in setting the rules and the consequences of breaking the rules, as what I said before, it will be good idea for students. However, with a set list of the rules and consequences, perhaps my students will know exactly what are expected of them. On the other hand, besides helping me to look out for the good of the entire classroom, classroom agreement at least can help me to not being sarcastic toward students or engage in a power struggle.
About sitting arrangement, I have my own reason of why this thing is crucial. My experience told me that the old sitting arrangement lacks of engaging students in discussion activity. Yes, sometimes, when they are required to share or discuss materials/problems with their peers or groups, they need to turn around their chairs and tables first. In my opinion, it really takes time and I personally dislike it. Since I prefer to use group work activities and group discussion, I will take a seat in the circle (where each member of group can face each other) to conduct lessons as well as moving around the room. Yes, if the sitting arrangements are arranged as so, I can maximize students learning. I can walk around, engage more students in the activity I prepared for, and create an environment where students can talk and share their ideas freely and comfortably.
Second, I will start my days of teaching by thinking about how to keep enhancing students’ motivation during teaching and learning process taken place. Yes, besides of preparing the lesson which will be delivered in class, trying to keep enhancing students’ motivation through the various ways like giving positive reinforcement and reward and some activities that foster collaboration rather than competition among students are also important. Besides of helping students build their own confidence, those kinds of things can intrinsically motivate them retain information and concepts longer and help teachers increase levels of student success and reduce dropout rates which a lot happens in most secondary schools (Blank, 1997 in Saifer, Edwards, Ellis, Ko, Stuczynski, 2011).
In summary, I realize that classroom management cannot be left behind in the teaching and learning process. It is crucial and as you know that it can be the important aspect to create a positive classroom environment where learning can take place and students can enjoy and feel safe participating. Even though to conduct the planning for an effective classroom management in secondary school is not simply as it may sound because at the secondary school level, classroom management presents its own set of challenges. Teachers at least can deal with trial and error process to find which set of classroom management strategies that is suitable for the students they teach.

Planning for Effective Classroom Management for Middle and High School

I think as a teacher, we have to plan some activities for make our classroom be effective. Based on my opinions, effective classroom is class that have good environment such active students, active activities, good collaboration between teacher and students. But this effective classroom have to supported by good lesson plan and good agreement between teacher and students, so teacher could organize the class as well as they can. For middle and high school students, sometimes they did not want arranged by the rules from teacher, so teacher could ask the students to arrange their own rules but teacher could add the rules by their own rules but they have to inform it to students.

Planning for effective classroom can start from make a class agreement and make a lesson plan that include an activity that using effective time but could achieve the learning objective. But teachers have to think an appropriate activity for each level of students, because middle students and high students have different interesting.

My Effective Management Classroom Plan

MMSEL Class in this week was little bit felt different without Miss Mima present between us.   But the class still continued by learning together with my group that discussed about planning affective management classroom in middle and secondary school. That is really difficult I felt, because I don’t know why, my class especially my friends become students who have challenges crowded characteristics. But fine I think, because of that I and my friends have opportunity to apply management classroom in class like yesterday.
After read the material that I got from E-Learning and other resources about planning affective management classroom in middle and secondary school and also discussed with friends after class yesterday I got one thing. I knew one thing that should teacher attention when planning affective management classroom is identify the student’s characteristics. At least teacher know the general characteristics of their own students. As examples, when teacher wants teach in middle and secondary school such that: the characteristic of students
       Influence of peers increases
Need for belonging and social acceptance increases
Search for sense of identity begins
Desire for autonomy and independence increases
Teacher also should know the students background in general, like about students’ score before enter this class. Another that, during the preparing the management classroom teacher also preparing the lesson plan, learning tools with interesting activity that appropriate with students characteristics.
One of the principles of management classroom said that “the first days of school set the tone for the year”. It means that, teacher can make the first meeting with students to set the agreement that can use during the teaching and learning process for one years. Teacher can use this meet as the process to closer with students and talk about rule and procedure that agreed by students. The good agreement for students should be given by teacher but students can add other agreement if it is needs to attentions. The agreement should consist of the rule and procedure that arrange the students’ manner, behavior and attitude of students. Teacher also needs gives students understanding about the rule or procedure that should be agreed by them. In examples, arrange the time for submitted of assignment, late 15 minutes is absent. Why it is should be a rule, as the reason teacher can show to students the disadvantages of the students came late. Students also can give opinions about the agreement, why they agree or not agree with the agreement. Teacher should make sure that all students agree with the rule and procedure before the agreement use in the class in one year.
In addition, teacher and students also discuss about the consequences for who do not obey and respect with the agreement. During the process, teacher as a monitor of the agreement should provide the reflection spaces for evaluate the agreement, is still appropriate for students or not. Teacher can guide the students to discuss together to reflect the agreement. That is my affective management classroom plan for my class. I hope I can implemented in my real class later.

Planning for Effective Classroom Management

In the last meeting we discuss about “Planning for Effective Classroom Management”, my group get opportunity to present this topic. We present without Miss Mima, our lecture, she have NEConference. So, he asks to record and burn our presentation into CD. I think enough for the OOT (Out Of Topic). Hehehehe... Furthermore, in my reflection will talk about the topic, how to plan for effective classroom management in middle and secondary school.

When we are planning management classroom, we must consider some important point which was discussed last meeting.  It is student’s characteristics and Rules. Student’s characteristics and rules will so influence the planning, student’s characteristics and rule in middle very different with student’s characteristics in secondary school. So when we conduct planning will be so different.

If I am being a teacher at middle or secondary school, for manage classroom of course I will consider student’s characteristics. In first meeting, I will gather, make circle and sit around, and we have introduction session. We can know each other. In this time I will know student’s characteristics. I can do it in middle or secondary school. And then keep in circle, we talk about the Agreement (Rule) and sit arrangement (like idea putra, when he share in the last meeting). Rule and sit Arrangement maybe will be different between middle and secondary school, because their characteristics are different.

I think with well management classroom, rule and sit arrangement agreed together, it will student order and safety in classroom. So that we will be motivate to learn the course and enjoy study with me. :)

Planning for Effective Classroom Management

“Plan Well make a Well Managing Classroom”

Plan well before teaching to make a well managing classroom. Yes, this word is same with my previous reflections. If the teacher want good in managing class then they should make planning before teahing.
Talk about the plans before teaching, I had an experiment when I was teaching in Regina Pacis High School during school experience.  This was my unforgettable moment. Did you ever do something different from the plan that you have prepared before? Yes, I did. When I taught in X3 grade, I had to change of my lesson plan because my laptop suddenly died. I did not know the cause, but certainly when my laptop connected to projector, my laptop died suddenly. I try to turn on my laptop but still not working. Unfortunately, at that time I did not bring any textbooks. I just bring laptop and tablets. So, what I want to do?
Yes, it just my experience. I hope the others will not get same experience with me. From the this moment makes a lesson for me to not just have one planning before teaching. We should have a other plan than a main plan before teaching. so when the main plan is not running we can use other plans.
Oh, yes I forget. This subtopic is delivered by Tyas, Septi, and etc (Lupa coy). Overall, the class was very cheerful and we laughed a lot, because so many interesting to be discuss. I really enjoyed this class although Mam Mina can not teach us like usual becouse she have other important agenda may be.
