How will you implement MMSEL Course
when you are a teacher?
I
think for promoting an effective learning process, there are many skills that a
teacher should have. Previously, when I am designing a lesson plan, I only
focus on the instructional strategies that could help me facilitate the
students to learn. However, in this semester, I realize that there is another
important skill that a teacher should have. I found that an effective instructional
strategy will be not going well if the teacher can’t ensure that the students are
willing and ready to experience the learning process. Thus, a teacher should
have skills about how to manage and motivate students in order to make the
learning process taking place. Finally, I learn those skills from the course of
MMSEL (Management and Motivation Student for Effective Learning).
However,
I think those knowledge do not mean anything if in the real experience of
teaching activity, I do not apply them in my classroom. Hence, if I am a
teacher, in order to build the conductible learning environment, I would like
to apply some strategies in my classroom. For example, in the first meeting I
will gather as much as information about the students to help me design the
learning process. I will name it as a welcome meeting. In the welcome meeting,
I and my students will have a discussion, heart to heart conversation. My goals
of that welcome meeting are to know about students’ need, students’ expectation
and also construct the classroom agreement together.
Understanding
the students’ needs and considering that everybody is special ate two main
principal that I believe will help me in motivating the students. Hence, in the
beginning of the semester, I should know what actually the needs of students,
how the learning process that they expect and in what condition they will feel
that learning is taking place. Those information will be gathered in the
welcome meeting, I will ask the students to share their feeling, their opinion
and their experience towards mathematics lesson.
Besides,
I will also ask them about their expectation. There will be two students’
expectation which will be gathered. The first one is the students’ expectation
on how the learning process should be conducted. That expectation will be used
as my guidance in designing the learning process. The second expectation is
students’ expectation about what skills that the students expect they will have
after the semester ended. I hope that the second expectation will remind the
students what goals that they should achieve. I believe that when the learning
has became a need for students then it will be easier for me to raise the students’
motivation. So that I will try hard to design the learning process which meets
to the students’ needs. Even though I know it will be not as easy as being said,
I believe that the bigger effort I make, the bigger impact the students take.
Furthermore,
to ensure the learning process is taking place effectively, I will ask the
students to discuss about the condition that we need to promote the effective
learning process. Through discussing some case study in the MMSEL course, I
realize that designing the classroom agreement is a fundamental method to
manage the classroom. It is because the solution for some problems that we
discussed is always making the classroom agreement. Then, I will guide the
students to develop a classroom agreement which will help us in managing the
learning process. For sure, I will let them discuss why designing a rules is very
important. Moreover, the consequences for those who break the agreement will be
also determined. I think by developing the classroom agreement, I could prevent
the problem behavior that may appear during the learning.by
