Climate Variable in My SEP

Even my School Experience Program (SEP) is just begin when others continue to go to class, but it is lucky to have time to go to class while I was doing the SEP. The lucky things that I mean is about can apply the material given soon. I have four times teaching in two days, two of them are done before MMEL class, and others are done after class. I am happy to having class at the middle of teaching, it was inspire me to make better teaching methods, and I proof that it is true about motivation is magic.
At the first teaching, the process of the teaching was run good enough. Each of the steps is design appropriately in line with the indicator to be measured. I started the lesson by ask them the benefit of using quadratic equation in the real life, no one answer it. Then I said that if you see the velocity, the guessing number they will find quadratic equation application. The steps are flow as the agenda and the difficulty that I face is about handle the activity. Even my voice is strong but they were not really pay attention toward me who gives instruction. If I see the background of the students, I found they are really good in study, each of them was strict selected to enter the school and the school is also discipline. But I did not understand why they act like did not know the respect things. Again and again I said to them to respect each other, I put it as the rule of class. I found some of them is not really enthusiasm to do the task given but the indicator to done the task is reached. From eight group, I found six group done appropriately, two another need some improvement. The reflection at the end of class reflect that some of them understand the material but others not.
Then I got class about climate variable that can be use to create motivation climate at classroom. I reflect my teaching and I realized about my failure at the beginning of the class. I give them a words about the benefit of application to the real world, but I just said in word like this “the quadratic equation is apply in some problems in the real world like velocity, yard, guessing number, etc.” I did not linkage the application to them, some of them maybe near with velocity because they have motorcycle; some of them maybe near with yard if they have. But it is just linkage to some of them and it is not really grab their attention. That is why their enthusiasm to learn this sub topic is low. In the conclusion, at the first meeting I did not compete task comprehension and challenge to them, but I have complete order and safety, and 75% success of the indicator reached.
Learn from the previous meeting, I set a strategy to grab their attention. all of them. I found that all of the students in this school interested to continue their study to university, so I will linkage the application problem towards SNMPTN. I use velocity problem because I expert in this problem (hhe), so I can design the problem correctly. I put this problem to be the opening problem of the meeting. I did not use words again because I realized that today’s teenager is closer with digital media so I set strategy to appear picture of a red motorcycle. The motorcycle is not the standard one, but the unique one, and it is red to make them charm. I use my own problem because I think they already bored about Jakarta problem. I made it quite interesting by using my hometown and popular university near with it. The last I put teenager problem include it so they will feel belongs to, that is lateness.
In another class which is started to study about application of QE with me, I begin the meeting by introduce myself, the learning objective and agenda. Then, I went to the picture slide. I ask them “ what can you explain from this picture” one of them know the genre of the motorcycle “Wow”, some of them said about the beautiful of the motorcycle. Then I said “I believe that all of you have your own opinion about this picture, but for me this picture reminds to my last problem.” The class being silent split second. It was really happened, If you don’t believe in me you may ask the mentor teacher. Then I continue my story “I live at Wonogiri, it is 60 km from Solo, do you know it?(class replay). I and my mother usually use motorcycle to go to Solo, but not this genre (pointing the picture and they laugh). Someday my mom and dad went to somewhere so I home alone, at that day I have SNMPTN test at Universitas Negeri Surakarta (UNS). The test begins at 7 and I just wake up at 6. I hurry call mom. (I make a role play at this time) I: Mommy I just wake up, what should I do? I will come late. Solo is too far huaaaaa. My mom: use the motorcycle and speed up 20 km/hour than usual. I: Ok Mom. I hang up. Then a big question appears in my head “Terrible! What is the usual velocity used by mom? I don’t know, huaaaaaaa.. Wait! I have learn quadratic equation... bla bla bla”
That is the way I explain the problem to them at the beginning of the class, the responds are very positive. My mentor teacher said that the story is really amazing to grab the student attention, they were interested in. I continue my teaching by others agenda and it is magic because all of them pay full attention to me, I did not need to use my high voice to explain each of things needed. Oh my! What a respectfully class. At that meeting I did not use group work, I measure the indicators reached by their task done individually. I went around the class to see them do the task. Each of places I went to, they call me, they ask about their difficulties. Finally, I found my students in enthusiasm climate. The task comprehension is completed. The success is completed. The order and safety is completed. And by the activity to create a problem, I have challenge each of them to reach the highest order thinking based on taxonomy bloom. Wow, what a beautiful teaching. I learn to always set strategy to grab their attention that linkage to all of them, remarks: all of them. By this strategy, I can keep my voice and not being stressed. Thank you motivation! You save me

Second Reflection of MMSEL

Second meeting of MMSEL, we learnt about Hierarchy of Maslow and role-play. It was interested. That method made me easier to understand. When we did role-play, I reflected about how my teacher on the last time. I could conclude that some of my teacher did not think about their students. They sometimes did not think about the needs of students. They seldom motivated their students.
When I was in Elementary grades, my teacher always compared me with my friend. I thought that she did not like me and I do not know her reason. She would be jealous if I got the best score and told me that it just my lucky. When I got low-score, my teacher would tell me that I was lazy. It was make me sad. She acted different to my friend, when my friend got the best, score she would be inform that in front of the class and when he got low-score, my teacher would help and motivated him.
After I attended the second meeting of MMSEL class, I think that my teacher forget to concern about student’s self-worth. I hope, I will not like her when I become a teacher later.

2nd Reflection of MMSEL

I remember when I still study in senior high school, in grade XI. I learnt mathematics with Mr. Fuad. Mr. fuad is very friendly. He knew about all us. He did not only teach mathematics, but in several time we often talk about everything. He often spoke about our girlfriend or boyfriend, to make a joke, and make my class become so funny. He is not only friendly and comfortable. He also was explaining about material clearly. He made mathematics become very simple and easy.
I also remember when he motivated me. He was comparing me with my friend in another class. He said “how can you lose with your friend, he have did answer “Student Worksheet” until topic 3, you still topic 2”. From that I have spirit and motivation to answer all questions in “Student Worksheet”. Finally, I answer all questions in “Student Worksheet” until topic 6, whereas we still discuss in beginning topic 2.
If I was connecting with MMSEL course at the last meeting. We discuss about Maslow’s theories, I think Mr. Fuad  had given student’s need and safety. And Mr. Fuad also give student’s belonging, so that the student felt comfortable in the class. I hope I can be Mr. Fuad next time.

Reflection 1st Meeting/Diyanta Wiga Pratama/2010110044

Reflection 1st Meeting
Last course was extraordinary class at the beginning of the meeting this course. Where there may be some students who think there will be bored content of his lecture, which discusses the motivation. In the beginning was forgotten most theories of motivation as me are studied in semester 1. But with an interesting lecture presentation can recall back science has learned. Although bias honestly say this material is hard enough, but Miss Mima can bring the spirit and fun.

If you do not master all the topics that are taught, at least I recorded the material presented, so that the capital can be learned and to learn more in-depth discussion. Furthermore the method that was implemented by Miss Mima is quite familiar, it was the guide discussion. However, with the formation in which students list all the known theories of motivation, then we will be discussed together.
Hopefully with this course, I can apply and provide positive energy in the form of motivation when I teach later. If it is not biased, at least I can motivate myself to fight better in the future teaching.

2nd Reflection of MMSEL/Diyanta Wiga Pratama/2010110044

Reflection Last Meeting
MMSEL dated 2 October 2012 did not escape the excitement as the week before. This week we learned about the theory of motivation stairs or commonly known as the theory of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Start from the beginning of the lesson Mrs. Mima able to enchant a classroom full of jokes so we are motivated to learn the material MMSEL itself. Understandably, before we set off very early and received a hard lesson, it is RM 2.

After opening the learning activities, we divided into groups to discuss the theory of Maslow himself. After discussion in the group, as usual we discuss with the class. Oh come on understanding the theory of Maslow divided into Deficiency needs and Growth needs. Deficiency needs split into 4 rungs form of Survival (Physiological Needs) is the basis of the level of the hierarchy, where people need to live, such as air, food, drink etc.. Then is safety (security), where people need to feel secure in their life. Continue to belonging (ownership) in which human beings need social relationships, in the form of friendship, etc. playmate. Finally, the self-esteem (self-confidence) that humans need a sense of well-respected awards in recognition of their expertise.
Growth needs is the culmination of the theory of Maslow hierarchy, where it will be met if the underlying levels are met. In other words, the level of deficiency needs must be fulfilled all. Growth needs supervised self-actualization needs. Self-actualization is the hierarchy needs to show the ability and skill of a person. This need will arise because someone wants to actualize such a challenging job.
After discussing the theory of Maslow above discussion, role play activities next is the content of the material "The Need for Self-Determination". After that we were divided into several groups. And finally, when the long-awaited appearance in the form of each group. The agenda is the subject of a lot of fun, because each group displays a unique and funny. However, the contents were still conveyed.
If related to private life, the Maslow theory to represent our needs to live a life that is the lowest level of the hierarchy to reach the highest hierarchy of needs. Where we are in life must begin with physiological needs, how not? Because in essence if we are going to work but not eat, drink or sick we would not be able to find customers in business. It was therefore concluded that to achieve the highest level of the hierarchy to which it is first priority.

Second Meeting

Second Meeting
In second meeting of MMSEL. I study about need. Need is the Maslow's theory. Maslow's theory has five levels; there are psychology, safety, love and belonging, self-esteem and self-actualization. Each person must have to fulfill the stage psychology, safety and love. However, self-esteem and self actualization is not necessarily every person can fulfill those needs.
As my own I felt my self esteem is not fulfill, I still lacked confidence in SSE because all of  SSE’s student are  smart  students and active students. While I only students is not actively participate in discussions of the classroom and i am not smart students. Why would I be? Because I feel when I discussed in my group, my idea would not be accepted by other. But I always try to study hard to match my GPA as another. When my GPA same with another, I will increase my self esteem.
Alhamdulillah from semester 1 until sth semester, my GPA always increase, I hope until the end or eight semester my GPA can be 4,0 (Mimpi kali ye .. hehe). But I always say in my heart when I go to campus, I can do the best, I must do my best for my parents.
And one more thing that makes me more confident in the 5th semester, people have known me as fundraiser, and I do fundraising with sincere hearts despite i must go to campus earlier than the other.
From my experience I can take the lesson that hard work and diligence will bring us success and every one is unique, each has advantages and disadvantages.
